Sept 20, 2010 – David Lake – “That’s Kyle”, and More

South Tyler Rotary member and Past President David Lake presented a program on the writing of his recent book, “That’s Kyle.

The book is a review of the life of David and Shirley Lake’s son Kyle.  Kyle’s life tragically ended early as he was performing a baptism at University Baptist Church, where he served as pastor.

David Lake has lived with his wife, Shirley, for over 40 years in Tyler, Texas, where he has practiced law as a licensed attorney mostly in the areas of real estate and transactional law. He holds degrees from Baylor University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Southern Methodist University School of Law.

He has had a long and established career in health care, banking, real estate, and ranching. He and his wife have been active members of First Baptist Church, Tyler, where he has served as Deacon Chairman and teacher.

David Lake highlighted the life of his son, Kyle.  He illustrated how the Lake Family worked through the grief of the loss of Kyle, while celebrating Kyle’s life.  The Kyle Lake Foundation was formed in 2007 as a way of helping others and continuing Kyle’s positive influence on the world.  The Kyle Lake Foundation has helped continue Kyle’s work through a series of educational scholarship as well as grants to various non-profit organizations.  An example, is to continue Kyle’s interest in soccer.  Every year the foundation conducts a professionally produced soccer camp for elementary aged students .  Scholarships are provided to many of the underprivileged attendees.

One objective of the foundation is to equip churches with life-saving defibrillators. At the conclusion of the presentation, the Kyle Lake Foundation presented Pastor Stuart Baskin of Tyler’s First Presbyterian Church with a defibrillator.
